4 reasons why video needs to be part of your recruitment strategy



Technology has drastically changed the way we attract and source talent when recruiting. Jobs sections in newspapers are diminishing, online job boards are less effective than what they used to be so in today’s world of technology, how do you attract and source the best talent for your vacancy?


You’ve probably noticed that video is increasingly filling more of your Facebook, Linked In and Twitter Feed. With 300 hours of video uploaded to YouTube every minute and 5 billion videos watched every single day, it’s no wonder there is massive opportunity to incorporate video into your recruitment campaign.

For a good few years now many larger corporates have been using video to tell their story and attract talent to their business. Not only is video being used in the attracting and sourcing of candidates when recruiting but it’s also become increasingly popular for interviewing candidates too, however let’s just focus on the attracting and sourcing today.

Video lets you tell your story; for the viewer to see, feel and experience your business, culture, and what a day in the life of the job is really like. Video executed well will create an emotion; a connection, with your potential candidates and engage them in your business and the opportunity.

2. Reach more people

In the job rich – candidate short market we are currently experiencing, attracting and sourcing talent is hard work. If you are recruiting, you want to make sure you are casting the net as far and wide as possible to touch as many potential candidates as possible. Video has the power to reach more people quicker than ever before. Sharing your video through social media channels, uploading it to YouTube, using it on your company website are all great methods to get your story out there and you can target specific market demographics.

3. Reach the right talent

Stats show that when using video in recruitment campaigns, video results in better quality applications. We have experienced this first hand when using videos of our clients to recruit for them. This happens as the result of point one and two above.

4. Video helps you recruit for culture fit

Have you ever read a job advert or attended an interview and been told we have a poor culture or nobody likes working here? No, highly unlikely, every job advert and interviewer is going to tell the job seeker that their workplace is amazing. Video lets you show your culture right from the advert stage, or even before that if you have your video on your company website all the time. The power with video is to get your people involved and let them show what a day in the life of your business is like, or how we do things here at the business. There are no better advocates for your business than your current employees. It is however important to produce a video that accurately reflects your mission, vision and values.
