How to recruit in a candidate short market in 2019 – B31 Ballarat Business Festival

Trying to recruit in 2019 in Ballarat is not an easy task. Unemployment is low, many industries are experiencing skills shortages and we are regionally located. As a Business Owner or a Manager you have got the work there to be done but you can’t find the people – the right people – to perform the work. What do you do?

You’ve run a recruitment advert using the traditional advertising channels; online job boards, print media, you’ve posted it on your Linked In or Facebook account and chances are one of two things have happened.

  1. You’ve had a handful of applications but no one wows you, it’s disappointing to say the least.
  2. You’ve received a high volume of applications and after spending hours reading resume after resume you are wondering if the candidates who have applied have even read your job advert because their skills and experience are worlds apart from what you advertised for.

Where to now? You’re under the pump, the workload is building. If you don’t do something your other team members are going to end up walking because they are fed up with trying to carry the load. You’ve got all these ideas of how you want to grow your business but you are hamstrung because you can’t find the right people to help you.

Should you appoint the best candidate from a bad bunch of applications? Do you run another advert? Or do you simply give up and restructure your business to outsource the work or not offer a particular service?

Before you throw your hands in the air and give up, come and learn how you can recruit in a candidate short market. As part of B31 – Ballarat Business Festival delivered by Commerce Ballarat, I’ll be hosting a two hour workshop on How to recruit in a candidate short market in 2019.

With over 13 years experience in the recruitment industry, never have I seen a harder market to recruit in. More than ever, employers are telling me about their struggles to find the right people for their teams and how they have thrown money away with recruitment advertising that hasn’t worked.

In the workshop I’ll share with you:

  • Why traditional recruitment practices are broken and what you need to do differently
  • How to pitch your role to attract the best candidates
  • Using social media to your advantage
  • Building your employer brand as an employer of choice
  • How to find the best people

The time is now to overhaul your recruitment strategy to help you find the best people not just now in 2019 but into the future. Traditional recruitment advertising is out and innovative targeted approaches are required. Can your business afford to stick with the traditional?
