When Ballarat teenager Fiona Elsey lost her battle with cancer in 1991, her courage inspired a community to act. Inspired and motivated by Fionas determination, the community that had loved and supported her, created a cancer research facility in her home town of Ballarat, in regional Victoria. FECRI is mostly dependent on the remarkable generosity of the Institute’s community of donors. It is because of their continued support that this most critical research into cancer continues.

FECRI is looking for a Community Engagement Manager to help look after the people and businesses who make this research possible. It’s a role built on relationships: getting to know local businesses, earning their trust and turning their goodwill into long-term support for the Institute. You’ll work alongside a small, close team and the Fundraising Committee, and while events are one way you’ll bring supporters closer to the cause, the heart of the job is the partnerships behind them.

What you’ll be doing

• Identifying, approaching and securing new corporate partners, sponsors and community supporters
• Nurturing existing partnerships through regular visits, genuine follow-up and clear reporting on impact
• Developing partnership proposals and packages that show businesses the value of backing FECRI
• Setting and working towards fundraising and sponsorship targets that keep funding sustainable
• Supporting the planning and delivery of fundraising events that bring the FECRI story to life
• Coordinating the community volunteer program and keeping volunteers connected to our mission
• Maintaining donor and community databases with accuracy and care
• Bringing the Community Engagement and Fundraising Strategy to life with the Fundraising Committee

About You

• Experience running fundraising events and having a genuine passion for seeing that work translate into real support for a cause
• Strong stakeholder relationship skills – you know how to earn a sponsor’s trust and turn a first conversation into a lasting partnership with our community supporters
• Excellent time management and attention to detail, so that even when you’re juggling multiple projects, nothing about the experience feels rushed or overlooked
• Strategic thinking paired with hands-on delivery – you’re just as at home shaping a campaign from the ground up as you are out there running it
