How to tell if your Wages are Compliant

The Fair Work Commission recently increased the National Minimum Wage and modern Award rates by 3.5%, which took effect on 1 July 2018. With a 6.8% increase in Award rates in the last 12 months, together with the new anti “wage theft” laws proposed by the Andrews Government for Victoria, it has never been more important to ensure you are not underpaying your employees.

While businesses are often painted in the media as ‘ripping off staff’ through underpayment of wages, in our experience most business’ are trying to do the right thing but get caught out on the complexities of determining the right wages. We urge all businesses to ensure you are up-to-date on your obligations and to avail yourselves of the wide range of free resources from the Fair Work Ombudsman and/or to seek advice from HR experts, such as Inspire HQ.

In a previous article “Minimum Wage to rise 3.5% – are you paying enough?” we talked about the different wage types. In this week’s infographic, we aim to simplify the process, by spelling out the different industrial tools and breaking down the components that make up a basic wage.
