This is just a chapter, not your whole story.

You know that moment when you’re at a friend’s BBQ (ok, I know this seems like a distant memory at the moment) and someone asks you what you do for work and you talk about how you deliver Outplacement services. The blank look on peoples’ faces is a common expression that I see!

Today, I thought that I would explain to you what I explain to my blank faced friends when they ask.

Outplacement is specialist support that helps people move on after a redundancy. So in short, as part of a redundancy, sometimes organisations will fund for a redundant employee to attend an Outplacement program with Inspire HQ. During this program, we offer both practical and emotional support to help people transition into new employment.

Our program offers independent, unbiased advice delivered by a Career Coach who offers support, understanding and guidance.

Inspire HQ is a little different to other organisations in that we customise and tailor our programs to fit the individual’s needs and provide a range of useful tools, along with a wealth of advice about the job search process.

We understand that everyone experiences different emotions and that people process redundancies differently. For some people, they have been through a consultation process and they’re expecting a redundancy as the end result; for others, it’s like a slap in the face and they have no idea until after the decision has been made.

The benefit is that Outplacement programs can support people in either of these situations. The fact that we tailor our programs, means that people progress through them at different paces and the topics covered with one client are completely different to the next. We offer a holistic approach to the sessions and have a genuine passion for providing a meaningful program to assist people to transition to new opportunities.
The benefits of Outplacement are clear for all to be seen.

Benefit to the Employer who has offered the redundancy

By offering an outplacement program as part of a redundancy package, it allows an employee to move forward in a positive direction, and they are less likely to damage a corporate reputation by sharing negative views about a previous employer. We also assist them to work through their emotions by realising that in many cases, it was not a personal attack on them, it was simply that the position that they were performing was made redundant.
It also shows the remaining employees a caring exit process and respect for previous employees. It shows that your role as a respected employer doesn’t finish when an employee’s contract ceases. It is a way to respect the future pathway of an employee, even when that pathway is no longer within your business.

Benefit to the Redundant employee

It’s amazing to see the transition of the person from the start of the program to the end.
In the first session, we often see people that are overwhelmed and disheartened by their recent experience.
We discuss how redundancies can present people with the opportunity to review where they are now and where they are heading. They may be committed to staying in the same industry, or it may open their mind to look at a new industry or role.
Throughout the program we build a trusting relationship, provide them with a wealth of knowledge and advice, they then leave with an updated range of application documents and the tools and skills to land them a new and exciting position. We are here to listen, mentor and empower people to self-manage their own direction. People leave with that little bit of hope that their future will be bright.

Benefit to the future employer

Often when someone has been made redundant, they enter our programs doubting their skills and abilities. Our Outplacement programs build a person’s belief in their skill set, help them identify which roles best align with their skill set, and give them a confidence boost that they have been, and will again be, a valuable employee.
This means that their future employer gains a confident, empowered and motivated new employee who has the right mindset for their next role.

Inspire HQ has worked with a range of clients across a range of industries. At the end of the day, and at the end of our program, every person has left feeling empowered, with the self-assurance to manage their own career path and be proud of how far they have come, even if it is not where they thought they would be.
